One of the most complete and best preserved examples of colonial architecture. Its cobbled streets, wooden balustrades, long balconies, horse-drawn carriages and its friendly and simple people, are all distinguishing features of the World Heritage Site of Trinidad. A real treasure, a wealth of riches, of urban gems and historical architecture.
Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, the Valle de los Ingenios (Valley of the Sugar Mills) is a true museum of the Cuban sugar industry since the end of 18th Century, with 65 ruins corresponding to sugar mills, summer houses, barracks and other facilities related to the manufacture of sugar. Over the years, an extensive process of restoration and conservation of its architectural and natural riches has been carried out.
Surrounded by remarkable residences, Plaza Mayor is considered the heart of the historic center of Trinidad City. The beautiful color of the facades that contrasts with the red of the roofs of the houses, distinguishes the city and reinforces its colonial style.
It is one of the largest temples in the country, with a very peculiar history of collapses and revivals. With its neoclassical architectural style, the church has a one-of-a-kind altar dedicated to the Virgen de la Misericordia and the famous original Cristo de la Vera Cruz.
At 45 meters high, this architectural complex is located in the old Manaca-Iznaga sugar plantation, in the Valle de los Ingenios. It was built in the eighteenth century with the aim of guarding the sugar plantations, to prevent the flight of slaves. At present it serves as a viewpoint where visitors can see the extension of the farm.
