Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, the Valle de los Ingenios (Valley of the Sugar Mills) is a true museum of the Cuban sugar industry since the end of 18th Century, with 65 ruins corresponding to sugar mills, summer houses, barracks and other facilities related to the manufacture of sugar. Over the years, an extensive process of restoration and conservation of its architectural and natural riches has been carried out.
Plaza Mayor de Trinidad
Surrounded by remarkable residences, Plaza Mayor is considered the heart of the historic center of Trinidad City. The beautiful color of the facades that contrasts with the red of the roofs of the houses, distinguishes the city and reinforces its colonial style.
Iglesia Parroquial de la Santísima Trinidad
It is one of the largest temples in the country, with a very peculiar history of collapses and revivals. With its neoclassical architectural style, the church has a one-of-a-kind altar dedicated to the Virgen de la Misericordia and the famous original Cristo de la Vera Cruz.
Iznaga Tower
At 45 meters high, this architectural complex is located in the old Manaca-Iznaga sugar plantation, in the Valle de los Ingenios. It was built in the eighteenth century with the aim of guarding the sugar plantations, to prevent the flight of slaves. At present it serves as a viewpoint where visitors can see the extension of the farm.
Topes de Collantes National Park
In Sierra del Escambray, at just 20 kilometers from the city of Trinidad, is located one of the most beautiful natural parks in Cuba. At about 800 meters above sea level, Topes de Collantes Natural Park has exuberant vegetation, endemic species of flora and fauna, numerous caves, rivers, cascades and waterfalls, among which the beautiful Salto del Caburní stands out. It is an ideal place to enjoy the charms of nature.
Ancón Beach
Located 12 km south of Trinidad, this wonderful beach offers excellent sea beds where you can see a great variety of coral reefs, sponges, black corals, among other species. In addition to the impressive archaeological remains where there are countless ships and galleons from corsair’s assaults. The area is perfect for snorkeling or diving lovers, with more than twenty dive sites.
